Bitter Magazine is currently OPEN for submissions from November 30 to January 11.
Bitter Magazine publishes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and visual arts. We want genre-bending, experimental work that slices through our preconceived notions. Writers, both established and emerging, from all backgrounds are encouraged to submit.
Submit your work to submissions.bitter@gmail.com through the submission form below. Please include your contact information, the title(s) of your work(s), and a short biography written in third person (max. 50 words). Your document should reflect what genre you are submitting to (e.g. PoetrySubmission.docx).
- We only read blind submissions. Please ensure your name and any other identifying information are left off your document or your work will be automatically rejected.
- Please make sure your work is written in a 12pt legible font (e.g. Times New Roman).
- Only .docx and .doc files will be considered.
- Poetry: Submit up to three poems; max. two pages per poem.
- Fiction: Submit up to two pieces; max. 3000 words per piece.
- Non-Fiction: Submit up to two pieces; max. 3000 words per piece.
- Visual Art: We accept all forms of visual art (e.g. photography, painting, multimedia, drawing, etc.); submit up to five pieces accompanied by a title and short description of each.
- Copyright: Bitter Magazine retains First North American Serial Rights and the right to reproduce any work in our print publication online. We do not accept any work that has previously been published online or in print. Rights revert to the author upon publication.
If you are submitting your work to multiple journals, we ask that you include this in your email and notify us immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere.
Bitter Magazine does not publish work created, supplemented, or edited using generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT). If we suspect the use of AI in your submission, it will be automatically rejected.
Any discriminatory or excessively vulgar work will be automatically rejected.
